One third Indian consumers shop using mobiles: Survey

In a day users spend three hours on their laptop/desktop, 4 hours on their mobile/smartphone and 2 hours on the tablet.

Once upon a time, people used to wait for holidays or weekends to plan their shopping spree. But, that has become an old habit. Last month, around 28 per cent Indian mobile users had used their devices for shopping from the comfort of their offices and homes.

InMobi, an independent mobile advertising network, in a research report titled 'Role of Connected Devices', has revealed that, "80 per cent of users (surveyed) in India say that mobile is their primary device and 28 per cent of mobile users shopped on their device in the last month."

Most of the users who used mobile for shopping did it between 9 PM to 12 AM, which means that after due discussion with their family members, mobile users decide which product to buy from online stores.

The report further reveals that on an average, in a day, users spend three hours on their laptop/desktop, four hours on their mobile/smartphones and two hours on the tablet. Apart from that 31 per cent of mobile/ smartphone users planned to spend much more money as compared to 27 per cent tablet users and 19 per cent laptop/desktop users in upgrading their existing device.

Another interesting thing about mobile user's preferences for using their device for certain kind of activities was also highlighted in the report. Mobile or smartphone was the preferred device for 46 per cent users for communication, 43 per cent for entertainment and 40 per cent for information. Apart from that for shopping, 32 per cent picked the mobile and 23 per cent the laptop/desktop as the next choice.

Role of Connected Devices study was undertaken by Mobext in association with InMobi earlier this year and covered 10,000 respondents across seven markets - the UK, the US, India, France, South Korea, Japan and Australia - out of which 2800+ respondents were from India.
