Airtel is almost ready to launch its 4G LTE services in Pune and will start offering 4G LTE modems for special limited period introductory price of Rs 4,999.
Airtel is set to launch its 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) services in Pune in the state of Maharashtra by next week. With this, Pune will be the third city in India to get Airtel's 4G services.
"4G LTE coming soon to Pune," the teleco announced on its website whereas the local Airtel Relationship Centres will start offering the Airtel 4G LTE services from next week onwards in Pune.
The 4G or Long Term Evolution wireless radio technology is capable of delivering data speeds of up to 100 Mbps in ideal environment theoretically.
Earlier this year, Airtel had rolled out its 4G LTE services in Kolkata and Bengaluru cities. The Airtel 4G LTE Multi-mode Dongle costs Rs 7,999 while the other model, which offers Indoor CPE with WiFi, costs Rs 7,750. However, Airtel is running a limited time offer to buy either of these devices at Rs 4,999 only.
Airtel 4G LTE networks operate on the Long Term Evolution Time-Division Duplexing (LTE TDD) 2300 MHz radio frequency spectrum and not available for the smartphones or tablets directly. With the new Airtel 4G LTE services, the company promises to offer download speed of up to 40 Mbps and upload speed of 20 Mbps. These speeds are good enough to share your documents and files seamlessly.
The Airtel 4G LTE modems work with 128 KB Universal SIM only and it does not support voice or SMS. The multi-mode modem USB stick will support 2G and 3G network bands as well. However, consumers can enjoy video calls based on VoIP services such as Skype, GTalk and others.
With the new Airtel 4G LTE services, the company aims to enable HD quality video streaming along with several Internet activities with phenomenal speeds. There are currently four post paid plans - Rs 999 (6 GB), Rs 1,399 (9 GB), Rs 1,999 (18 GB) and Rs 2,999 (30 GB). Once the free usage limit has been reached, the speed drops to measly 128 Kbps.
