iPhone 5 coming to India on Oct 26

The 16 GB model of Apple iPhone 5 will be available in India for Rs 45,000 while its 32 GB model may be priced at Rs 50,000.

The much awaited Apple iPhone 5 will be available in India from October 26, a trusted source of The Mobile Indian at one of the Apple Service Centers in India, revealed. The source also noted that the 16 GB model of iPhone 5 will cost approximately Rs 45,000; while its 32 GB model will cost approximately Rs 50,000.

Our source informed that there is currently no clarity on the 64 GB iPhone 5 model, but it is expected to be priced around Rs 56,000.

Apple had announced the new lighter, thinner and faster iPhone 5 smartphone last month. The new iPhone 5 has a 4 inch Retina IPS display that supports 1136 x 640 pixel resolution natively. Under the 7.6 mm thin body, it packs a new Apple A6 mobile processor with triple core graphics. The phone sports a totally new design with a brushed aluminium back panel that has glass strips on the top and bottom.

At the rear, the iPhone 5 has an 8 megapixel iSight camera with five element glass, now comprising of Sapphire glass crystal and hybrid IR filter. There is also a front facing camera that can now indulge 720p HD FaceTime videos.

Our source noted that due to the Rupee-to-Dollar fluctuation, the cost of the iPhone 5 was a mystery. The guess is that it will launch for about Rs 48,000 onwards.

Telecom operators in India have already stocked up on nano SIM cards. Idea Cellular's chief marketing officer, Sashi Shankar, noted two weeks ago that the operator has already stocked up on nano SIM cards and is now waiting for Apple to formally announce the iPhone 5.

We expect the new iPhone 5 smartphone to get some great initial response from Indian consumers. Also, we shall wait to see how it fares against the quad core mobile processor bearing Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone.
