Updated Google Docs for Android to let you edit on the go.

Google, in a bid to extend greater levels of productivity to its users, rolled out an update to Google Docs for Android, allowing users to edit documents on-the-go. They announced in a blog post that they've brought the same collaborative experience that users have with Google Docs on their desktops, to their mobile devices. This means that users will not only be able to edit documents on the go, but also see edits taking place in real time on shared documents, as others type on their computers or mobile devices. To join in on the edit, you have to tap the document. Watch the video below to see a demo of the new Google Docs application for Android.

Given that you're editing documents on a mobile device, which does not have the same screen real estate as a computer would, Google's also updated the interface. So it's easier to edit documents on a mobile surface. For instance, you can pinch to zoom, so to focus on a particular paragraph or to see the whole document in a glance, all you need to do is pinch in or out. They've also added rich text formatting, so you can make bullet points, add colours to your document and write in bold, italics or underlined.

As mentioned earlier, Google wants to provide greater productivity for its users. Google software engineer, Vadim Gerasimov said, "As I was sitting on the ferry commuting to Google’s Sydney office this morning, two thoughts occurred to me. First, Australia is beautiful. If you’ve never been here, you really should visit. And second, it’s amazing how productive I can be with just my Android phone and an Internet connection. I was responding to email, reading news articles and editing documents—just like I do at the office. Only the view was better!

We want to give everyone the chance to be productive no matter where they are, so today we’re releasing a new update to the Google Docs app for Android. " The idea is that Google wants to make you productive, no matter what the distance is. Do you like to edit documents on the go? Will you use the Docs for Android update?
