Rovio announces Amazing Alex; will it garner as much success as Angry Birds?

Rovio, the Finnish video game developer was founded in 2003 and flung to popularity when they launched Angry Birds in 2009. This strategy puzzle video game was an instant success and since its inception, it has grown into much more than just a video game. Following on the footsteps of Angry Birds, Rovio has now teased a new title in their line-up, called Amazing Alex, which is supposed to be another game based on physics and is first expected to launch on Android and iOS, followed thereafter on Windows Mobile.

In the press release, Rovio claims, “Meet Amazing Alex, star of Rovio’s newest game! This whiz kid has a boundless imagination and a houseful of fun toys that can turn anything into a great adventure! From cleaning up his room to playing in his backyard, Alex creates amazing chain reactions to get the job done with the maximum amount of fun.”

The solutions for each level can be created by yourself and Rovio states, “Set the objects up to bounce, pop, ricochet, bash, and crash into each other and create an elaborate Rube Goldberg device! With a houseful of toys to play with, there’s more than one right answer! Share your most creative solutions with your friends and see what they came up with!”

One can also build and share levels. Rovio claims that if you have a great idea for a level, you can design intriguing new levels using 35 interactive objects and share them with your friends or with the whole world. They state that with other fans constantly creating and uploading new levels, there are always new challenges to check out.

Rovio ends by stating, “We’re excited for you to meet Amazing Alex and step into his incredible world, a space to create, experiment, and have fun.” Amazing Alex will be launching soon on iOS and Android, with Windows following soon after. Though Rovio have not mentioned the exact date of when it will be launched, one can expect it to be available for devices by this month. As of now, there is no pricing available for Amazing Alex but one can expect it to be on par with the cost of Angry Birds.

Commenting on the launch of the upcoming game, Abhi of The Droid Guy states, “Rovio has always been condemned for over-promoting and perhaps even hyping their products. Critics believe that the success of games then is due to extensive marketing and the so-called experts downplay the technical aspect of the game. For instance, Angry Birds though was much hyped in the media, by the courtesy of its flawless gameplay, neat graphics and ingenuity it fared extremely well in the market. You do not need to publicize awesomeness. It needs no recognition. We hope Amazing Alex does well even with minimal publicity. That would shut some sour-mouths.”
