MapTiler: Create An Overlay Of Virtual Maps & Publish Them Online

While sharing an online map with somebody, you might have felt the need to show them multiple layers of the same region at the same time. Here to help you accomplish this by overlaying images on a map is an app called MapTiler.

MapTiler is a free to use app for Windows and Mac, that lets you publish maps with images of other maps overlaid. The desktop app can create overlays of standard maps like Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, Microsoft VirtualEarth or OpenStreetMap, and can be also visualized in 3D form by Google Earth. The app supports files conversions for TIFF/GeoTIFF, MrSID, ECW, JPEG2000, Erdas HFA, NOAA BSB, JPEG, and various other image file formats.

The app generates a directory along with map tiles for your end result. You can publish the map by uploading the generated material into your webserver.

Features:

  • A user-friendly desktop app.
  • Has versions for Windows and Mac computers.
  • Creates map overlays.
  • Supports a wide variety of map services and file formats.
