Flipkart unveils mp3 music download store - Flyte.

Flipkart, the popular online shopping destination has now taken its next step with the launch of their MP3 download service, called Flyte. While e-commerce was still setting up in India, when Flipkart emerged, its latest venture, an online music store launched on Monday will have to battle stiff competition coming from other such initiatives, offering free music streaming and also from music piracy websites and Torrent downloads, alike. Flipkart earlier revealed its plans for the digital media store, following the lines of Apple’s iTunes, reports IBNLive. The e-shopping site had also acquired mime360.com, a media distribution platform, late last year.

Flyte claims to offer a large collection of songs, allowing users to choose from about 700 genres and 55 languages. It also offers DRM (Digital Rights Management) free MP3 files and promises CD quality music with the ability to sync on multiple devices. Users can listen to a 30 second clip before proceeding with the purchase, which could cost Rs.6 per song onwards. Users can also buy an entire album. The music purchases are only for users in India, currently. Majority of the songs available on the music store are available as MP3 files encoded at 320kbps bitrates, while some songs are available at lower bitrates, says Flipkart.

Flyte lets users download each purchased song for about four times and it gives users the option to either, download the music directly or use the download manager, which simplifies the process. The Flyte Download Manager is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, while the Linux version is in preps. It is 4.3 MB download for Windows and 6.3 MB for the Mac version. The download manager helps simplify the process and downloading multiple files is possible with a single click. Flyte has sections, like most featured albums, popular albums and also new albums. The new albums include music of upcoming as well as new releases, such as Agent Vinod and more.
