Sony goes open source with Smart watch, aims easier life

With the added ability to tweak the device's firmware, developers would be able to add newer functionality.

In a bid to improve its SmartWatch, Sony has given the developers more control over the accessory. Now developers, who were earlier only limited to the making of application for the SmartWatch, would now be able to add newer functionality to the watch as well.\

"Previously, you've been able to create apps for SmartWatch with the Sony Add-on SDK, but now we hope to see even more innovation as we're making it possible for advanced developers to create and flash alternative firmware," Sony wrote on its blog post addressing the app makers.

Developers thus now can add newer abilities to the SmartWatch. For instance the SmartWatch can now alert users with notification; but developers can add the ability to answer the calls to the SmartWatch.

Well with the ability to flash the firmware the possibilities are limited with the limited usage or availability of features but it is up to the developer's creativity to use the ability and features to improve user's experience and not just making apps for the Sony SmartWatch.
