Sony announces Xperia Z Ultra with 6.4-inch display

Japanese manufacturer Sony today unveiled its Xperia Z Ultra phablet at Mobile Asia Expo. Packing a huge 6.4-inch full HD display, the phone offers highest level of water-resistance.

According to Sony, Xperia Z Ultra is also the first phone to come with its TRILUMINOS display. The company claims that TRILUMINOS Display for mobile reproduces a greater range of rich, natural colours to deliver true and natural shades. The display also includes X-Reality for mobile – Sony’s picture engine that analyses every single image to optimise colours, sharpness and contrast.

“The Xperia Z Ultra is the most exciting revolution in large-screen smartphone entertainment devices with both the slimmest and largest Full HD smartphone display* in the world that is second to none.” said Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra also packs 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 4G LTE connectivity, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.2. The phone also comes with 3,000 mAh battery, 16GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.

The phone also supports handwriting recognition which is compatible with any pencil and selected stylus or pen (capacitive stylus or metal pen with tip diameter over 1mm).

“With Xperia Z Ultra you don’t even need a stylus. Pick up any pencil or pen with conductive tip and you can start writing or drawing. And you can write during calls, so you’ll always be ready capture your thoughts as they happen. Note taking and sharing has never been easier,” a Sony executive stated.

In addition, the smartphone comes with new and updated Sony Media Applications – WALKMAN, Movies and Album as well as Sony Reader app for access to e-Books.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra will be available sometime in Q3 in Black, White and Purple colours.
