BlackBerry 10 to support Android Jelly Bean apps

Till now only Android Gingerbread supported apps were ported to the BlackBerry 10 operating system.

After porting a number of Android Gingerbread applications, BlackBerry has now decided to bring Android Jelly Bean 4.2 supporting applications to its new BlackBerry 10 operating system.

In this regard, BlackBerry has released Beta version of BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps and Plug-in for Android Development Tools for BlackBerry 10.2. With this new Beta release the company has added support for the Android Jelly Bean based application, allowing developers to bring new apps to the BlackBerry 10 platform.

The company is also working on a few things including an emulator for the new runtime allowing apps to run on the BB 10.2 platform.

The Android Jelly Bean presently is the latest Android operating system and hence developers are bringing new application or are upgrading their existing apps to support that.

BlackBerry is expected to release a stable version of the Android Development Tools for developers by August and thus Android Jelly Bean supported apps may start coming for BB OS 10 by the end of this year.
