Sony's entry level Xperia Tipo is the only Android 4.0 phone in the entry level segment from an MNC player
Sony is working on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual. The Xperia Tipo is an entry level smartphone from Sony and is selling for around Rs 8,000; while SIM Tipo Dual costs Rs 8,200.
Sony Xperia Tipo is the only handset from an MNC player in this price range to run on Android 4. 0; all the other handsets like Samsung Galaxy Y and LG Optimus L3 run on the aging Android 2.3 Gingerbread. A Sony official, who is part of the software development team and wished not to be named told that, "Sony Xperia Tipo dual has surpassed our sales expectation and is a big hit for us, we want to make it even better with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in about a month's time."
With the upgrade Sony will also include the Sony Music app and Sony Liv Mobile TV application.
Sony's Xperia Tipo and its dual SIM version the Tipo Dual run on Android 4.0 operating system. The Sony Tipo Dual comes with a hardware button, using which one can easily switch between the two SIMs. The rest of their specifications are identical. Sony Xperia Tipo runs on an 800 MHz Qualcomm Scorpion processor, an Adreno 200 graphics processing unit and 512 MB RAM. The phone has a 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with HVGA resolution of 320 x 480 pixel.
The phone also comes with Sony's Timescape user interface, and has a 3.2 megapixel primary camera. Sony Xperia Tipo comes with 2.5 GB of internal memory as well as an expandable memory card slot with support for up to 32 GB. The phone is powered by a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery with promised talktime of up to 4 hours. The phone offers regular features common on most Android phones like 3G, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, proximity sensor and gravity sensor. Sony has also used its xLOUD audio filter technology, which claims to improve the audio experience.
