Huawei's 1st Windows 8 smartphone launched


Called Ascend W1, the handset has a dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor.

After launching world's biggest 6.1 inch display bearing Mate smartphone, Huawei has now unveiled its first ever Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system based smartphone, named as the Ascend W1. Huawei has showcased the smartphone at the ongoing Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, USA.

Huawei Ascend W1 is built around a 4 inch WVGA (480 x 800) resolution IPS LCD display which has been powered by the Adreno 305 GPU. The display uses full lamination technology to enhance outdoor visibility.

The Ascend W1 has a 10.5 mm thick profile making it sleek yet conformable for the users. The device is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor of Qualcomm and for imagery, there is a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording ability.

The Huawei Ascend W1 comes with a 470 hour stand-by battery life as claimed by the company. To achieve this, the Ascend W1 utilises a power saving technology that saves about 30 per cent power consumption, letting the 1950 mAh battery last longer than it nominal run time.
The Huawei Ascend W1 will be made available in blue, red, black and white in China and Russia this month followed with Western Europe, Middle East and USA next.

Its price has not been made clear at this point but it is expected to be on the affordable side giving competition to devices such as the HTC 8S and Nokia 820.
