Samsung’s upcoming 7-inch tablet to be cheaper than Nexus 7: Report

Samsung’s rumoured 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 might undercut Google’s Nexus 7 in terms of pricing, reports Digitimes. The publication claims that Tab 3 7.0 will be priced in US$149-199 range.

As Digitimes does not cite any sources, not even its usual supply chain contacts, we are a bit sceptical about this. However, given the recent entry of Asus and Acer in the sub-$150 tablet space, it is plausible that Samsung launches a similarly priced tablet.

The specifications of this tablet are unclear right now, and if this alleged pricing is any indication, we don’t expect anything more than a dual-core processor, Jelly Bean, 512MB/1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The tablet would also be Wi-Fi only. The Korean manufacturer might release an expensive a 3G version later in select markets, but this is pure speculation.

Digitimes also adds that the 7-inch tablet will be released in the first half of the year, which means we can expect an announcement at Mobile World Congress.

An earlier rumour had suggested that the tablet has been code-named Santos at Samsung’s end and the company was still mulling over whether to release it or not. Looks like (as Digitimes suggests), Samsung has decided to bring it to the market.
