Samsung buys Boxee, bringing live streaming to devices

The Korean giant has reportedly purchased the Boxee service for 30 Million dollars.

Samsung is reported to have purchased multimedia service provider, Boxee, for $30 million. Boxee enables its users to view, rate and recommend content to their friends through many social network services and interactive media related features. Along with that the service also recently added the ability to stream live content to the devices and users.

Samsung is now being expected to add the same functionality to its device via additional hardware or through the means of applications that can easily run on its smart televisions and mobile devices alike.

Samsung has paid a sum of $30 million to the streaming media service provider in turn for the completed acquisition of resources that include the 40 of its employees as well who have been working for the service till now.

With the purchase of the streaming service Samsung is likely to further enhance its existing range of products or there is also a possibility for the electronics giant to start off its own new venture for the media streaming service. Boxee offers a device that connects to televisions and allows streaming videos from the Internet and personal computers. It also offers media applications and social media connectivity.
