Vodafone officially announces ‘Vodafone Smart’ in India for INR 4995.

Vodafone has officially launched its first self-branded Android phones in India. Although available in stores for over three months, the official announcement came yesterday only. Vodafone has however reduced the price of the phone to just INR 4,995, it was earlier selling for around INR 6,695.

For 5K, you get Android 2.2, 2.8 inch capacitive display, 528MHz processor, 2MP camera, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and FM. Buyers will also receive a limited period offer of double data benefit on 3G.

Vodafone Smart now available in India for INR 6695

Remember, we reported a while back that telecom operator Vodafone is planning to release a self branded Android smartphone ‘Smart’ in the Indian market. Well, it is now selling on Flipkart for INR 6,695.

Vodafone is yet to officially announce the smartphone, which we believe will happen this week or next week. Smart runs on Android 2.2 and is powered by 528MHz processor; it will be available locked to Vodafone network in the country.

Manufactured by Huawei, Vodafone Smart is a decent entry-level smartphone; Vodafone will surely release some free data offers for the smartphone at the time of official launch, which will make it an even better deal.

Other features of the smartphone include 2.8 inch QVGA capacitive display, 2MP camera, aGPS, HSDPA and Bluetooth 2.1. Smart will be the second Android powered device released by Vodafone in India, first was Webbox, which is also due its nationwide launch, as it is only available in Haryana right now.
