Lava to launch first ever Intel smartphone this week, India gets first dibs.

Back in February, when the Mobile World Congress event was in full swing, Intel took to the stage and revealed that they have partnered with Lava International Ltd. and announced the Xolo X900. What makes this handset interesting is that it is based on Intel's smartphone reference design, featuring the Intel Atom processor Z2460 with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology and supporting HSPA+ with the Intel XMM 6260 Platform. If one was wondering when this handset would be officially announced, a report by PCWorld has cleared that up and stated that it would be launched in India this week.

As per the report, “Lava will ship the Xolo X900 smartphone with Intel's Atom chip code-named Medfield, said a source familiar with the product plans. Intel CEO Paul Otellini on Tuesday also said that the first Intel Inside smartphone would ship later this week.”

Here is a quick look at what is expected to feature in the Lava Xolo X900:

4.03-inch high-resolution LCD display
1.6GHz Atom Z2460 processor
Rear and front facing cameras
HSPA+ network support
NFC
HDMI

As of now, there is not much information on the exact date of launch. The handset is expected to ship running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich in the future. As for the camera, the first Intel-based smartphone will feature an 8 megapixel shooter as its main camera and a 1.3 megapixel camera in the front. As far as the display goes, it will feature a 4.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600. The internal memory that will feature in the Xolo X900 will be 16GB and will support expandable memory up to 32GB. The handset will come with 1GB of RAM.

In a related report by The Mobile Indian, sources familiar with the product have stated, “Lava Mobile will be launching Xolo X900 in this week and it will be priced around Rs.13,000.” Regarding the specifications, the report goes on to state, “An Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator on this handset will support all modern 3D graphics and high quality video playback.”

At this price, this smartphone seems to be an attractive option for a smartphone.
