Will launch phones in India every two months: ZTE

However, the Chinese giant has no plans to bring tablets to the Indian market.

Chinese handset major ZTE is planning to expand its handset business in India in a big way. The OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) major, which till now confined itself to telecom equipment and covertly manufactured handsets for telecom operators and other handsets marketers, is now planning to launch mobile phones in India every two months.

"Not promoting ZTE's own brand in India was a strategic mistake…We are thus trying to create the ZTE brand in India. We have already launched four handsets (six were launched but only four devices made it to the market) in July this year…We will launch smartphones in India every two months," said Amir Saxena, director of marketing, ZTE.

He also added that the company will launch devices in different display sizes and in different price brackets and with various battery sizes.

When quizzed about whether ZTE plans to bring tablets to India as well, Amit categorically refused, saying that the company is focusing only on expanding its smartphone business in India. Also, he clarified that the company has no intention of bringing Windows powered devices and will stick to Android operating system.

However, it is not only devices, ZTE is also planning to strengthen its after sales services and footprint in India.

"We currently have a tie up with Flipkart for online sales of ZTE devices. We are also working on ZTE Experience Zones to let people have a glimpse of ZTE devices before buying," Amit said.

He also revealed that ZTE is planning to bring cloud service support for its customers in India.
