Path clears for Riliance Jio to roll out 4G with voice calling

Reliance Jio is expected to launch 4G services in India by the end of this year.

The telecom ministry has given its nod for unified license for Reliance Jio, the only pan-India 4G spectrum holder. The ministry has also issued the Letter of Intent to the company for taking the license. With Unified License, Reliance Jio now would roll out its 4G services in the country with voice calling. Earlier, 4G operators are only allowed to roll out data services.

"Telecom Minister (Kapil Sibal) has approved it (Unified Licence for RJIL) and letter of intent was issued last week," PTI reported quoting its official sources.

Reliance Jio is expected to launch its 4G services in the country by the end of this year. Reliance Jio has pan-India license for 4G services though which it may offer up to 100 Mbps data speeds. Currently, only Airtel provides 4G services in Bangaluru, Pune and Kolkata. Airtel is also expected to launch its 4G services in Delhi and Mumbai by the end of this year.
