The apps will continue to be available however no new apps would be allowed for Symbian
After moving away from the Symbian bandwagon last year, Nokia is now moving the developers away from the Symbian platform. Nokia has sent out mail to its developers stating its plans with Symbian app development going forward. So basically this year is the last year during which developers would be able to develop and publish new content for Symbian based devices, following that Nokia would pull the plug on the new content being made available for related devices.
Nokia in its message to developers said, "If you have Symbian and MeeGo content in the Nokia Store, it will continue to be available for download to customers, and you will continue to receive download and revenue reports as well as payouts for downloaded content. However, starting January 1, 2014, you will no longer be able to publish any new content or update existing content for Symbian and MeeGo".
It's clear that Nokia is not going to turn its face back to Symbian any more. After the recent buyout by Microsoft there were hopes that Nokia might revive the Symbian devices, but it is not going to happen anymore.
However it does not mean and end for the devices as for developers several of other third party application stores are still open and once Nokia shuts its doors they can make the new content available through them.
