Lenovo planning sub-Rs 5,000 smartphones in India: Report

Lenovo recently entered the Indian market with six handsets priced between Rs 8,000-Rs 32,999.

Lenovo, which has recently made its entry in Indian smartphone market with six handsets, is planning to launch sub-Rs 5000 devices in the country, according to a report of The Hindu Business Line.

According to the report, the leading Chinese smartphone maker is trying to lure in those who are looking to upgrade themselves from feature phone to the smartphone segment.

"We are watching the space because we know there are people who are upgrading from feature phones to smartphones, and that is a big trend in emerging markets today," Nick Reynolds, executive director - worldwide product marketing, Lenovo, was quoted as saying by The Business Line.

However, Lenovo will have a tough time as many Indian as well as Chinese brands have a range of Android handsets under Rs 5,000, starting from as low as Rs 3,000.

Lenovo on Wednesday launched six handsets, marking its entry into the Indian market. The handsets - K900, P780, S820, S920, A706 and A390 - are priced in between Rs 8,000 to Rs 32,999.
