"Indian customers are passionate about books and reading, and we're very excited to make the best-selling e-readers in the world-Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite-available to our Amazon.in customers," said Amit Agarwal, vice president and country manager, Amazon India. "We're also excited to make the Kindle Store available on Amazon.in, making it easier than ever for our customers to discover the largest e-bookstore in India."

Kindle e-readers are designed for people who love to read.

Kindle allows customers to carry their entire library in their pocket and purchase new books wirelessly. Weighing less than a typical paperback book and thinner than a magazine, Kindle is small and light enough to fit easily in a pocket and take everywhere, and features a 6-inch electronic ink display that reads like real paper. Kindle customers can sample the first chapter of books for free before deciding to buy.

"Kindle Paperwhite is the most advanced e-reader ever created and we believe book lovers in India will love the display that reads like real paper with no glare even in bright daylight, an innovative built-in front light for reading in all lighting conditions, 8 weeks of battery life, and instant access to the largest selection, including the most bestsellers, and lowest prices of any e-bookstore in India," said Dave Limp, vice president, Amazon Kindle.

"Kindle is small and light and is designed to disappear when you are reading, helping you to get lost in the author's words."

The India Kindle Store (www.amazon.in/kindlestoreindia) now offers over 1.7 million books priced in Indian Rupees (INR), including 82 of 100 Nielsen India Bookscan Best Sellers, illustrated content including graphic novels such as Judge Dredd , Batman and Watchmen, Children's titles such as the Mr Men series and a massive selection of titles including new releases and works from a range of famous Indian authors like Amish Tripathi, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Robin Sharma, Rashmi Bansal and Chetan Bhagat.
