Huawei launches entry-level Gingerbread phone Ascend Y210D for Rs 4,999

Huawei has launched an entry level smartphone for the Indian market, the Ascend Y210D that runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The phone is aimed at younger Indian audiences and has been priced to that effect at Rs 4,999.

The Ascend Y210D has been optimised by Huawei for Internet and social media consumption, offering a fast 1Ghz Qualcomm processor that makes gaming, browsing and emailing easy. The phone features a 3.5-inch HVGA display and has dual SIM, 3G and 2G, dual standby allowing consumers to be able to best manage their budget on voice and data connections.

The handset allows users to access internet at 3.5G 7.2 Mbps download speeds or enjoy up to six times faster Wi-Fi Internet via 802.11 b/g/n. The Ascend Y210 also lets you create Wi-Fi Hotspots that allow you to share Internet with multiple devices.

The Ascend Y210D features a long-lasting 1700 mAH battery that the company claims offers 30 percent more battery life thanks to Huawei’s Power Saving Technology. The phone packs a 256MB RAM and offers a five second fast boot-up, says Huawei.

Featuring a basic 2MP camera with CMOS sensor, the Ascend Y210D is available in two colours, ceramic white and phantom black. It is available online on channels like Home Shop 18, Flipkart, Infibeam and Snapdeal as well as retail stores like Croma, Ezone, Reliance Digital, Univercell and Huawei Experience outlets and multi-brand outlets nation-wide.

Commenting on the launch, Anand Narang, Marketing Director Huawei Device India said, “To enable internet access for millions of Indian youth, we wanted to offer a compelling mid-range smartphone proposition at an entry level price. Ascend Y210D will help us put a no-compromise first smartphone into the hands of millions of younger Indians in smaller towns & cities”.

Huawei had made quite a splash at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show and it is rumoured that the company will soon be updating its W1 Windows Phone handset and will launch two Android smartphones—the mind-boggling octa-core Huawei Ascend P2 and its little brother, the Huawei Ascend P2 Mini.

A couple of blurry pics of the octa-core Ascend P2 were leaked earlier this month and the photos show a very clean front with capacitive touch buttons; there are no visible on-screen buttons. However a previous leak did indicate that the company would go with on-screen buttons. Perhaps Huawei has managed to make the navigation bar disappear when not needed, like in the Ascend Mate.

The key specifications of Huawei Ascend P2 are rumoured to be as follows:

4.7-inch IPS display witth 1080p resolution
Wi-Fi, WiFi hot spot
GPS with A-GPS support
Bluetooth, Micro USB port
8/16GB internal storage
13-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera
