WishTel announced the launch of the world’s cheapest Linux-based tablet PC, “PrithV”. Designed and manufactured in India, and priced at US$50, the tablet is designed to serve all the global education needs. PrithV is a Linux-based educational Platform to be offered on tablets and net book PC supporting 85 global languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Urdu, Zulu and 23 Indian languages. PrithV has been developed in Association with Gnowledge lab, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education under guidance of Prof Nagarjuna. PrithV comes loaded with Educational Suite to offer Self Learning software’s for Pre-Primary, Tertiary, Higher Education for Languages, Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Geography, Math: Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Medicine, Computing etc. prithv PrithV is fuelled by a 2800 mAh battery and offers 3 hours of usage, claims the company. It is powered by a 800 Mhz processor. Announcing the launch of the Mr. Milind Shah, Chief Executive Officer, Wishtel added, “Our objective as a technology and manufacturing company is to create affordable range of products that can contribute to Society by extending Education for free and without boundaries. We also want to take advanced technology to such parts of world where every stratum of the society can access our products at an affordable price. We intend to offer our solutions to Universities and Schools worldwide and empower every student with a PC enabling them to learn and educate themselves beyond textbooks, access and create their own knowledge.” PrithV is a free and open source platform offering access to library of over 3 million books, encyclopaedia, class room videos, virtual lab for Science, Math and Geography. PrithV shall be collaborated efforts of all teachers and Linux developers to offer Education for free. PrithV, meaning “Earth” in Ancient Sanskrit, is the world’s economical computer that can perform complete computing, programming, database management, arithmetic and logical operations in addition to basic tasks like emails, web browsing, media, office applications etc. Since the introduction of the WishTel ‘IRA’ tablet PCs early this year, WishTel has shipped over 250,000 devices and expects to reach monthly volumes of 100 thousand per month. To meet this growing demand, WishTel is expanding the capacity of its manufacturing facilities in Maharashtra, while at the same time increasing investment in R&D to further enhance its hardware, design and software engineering capabilities to meet the diverse needs of both domestic and overseas customers.
