Sony announces Xperia Miro on Facebook, initial response shows disappointment

Sony’s new Xperia line-up of smartphones is enjoying its fair bit of attention and love from media houses and consumers alike and now the company has announced a fresh new smartphone, as part of their Xperia line-up. This new addition is going to be called the Xperia Miro and it has been officially unveiled on Sony’s Facebook page.

A post on Sony Mobile’s FB page earlier showed a Willy Wonka-styled clock, along with a countdown timer below ticking away. The twist here was that you had control over how soon the new product would be unveiled and by pressing the ‘Fast Forward’ button below, you could speed up the time by a few seconds. Since it went live, the release date moved ahead from its original June 22 date to June 19 and now with a bunch of eager users, the Xperia Miro has finally arrived. Around 25,914 fans were involved in the clock being pushed forward for the launch of the phone. It’s also interesting to note that Sony’s Facebook page has been flooded with responses citing disappointment, as most users were expecting something else and more ‘exciting’, along the lines of the Xperia GX
.
Now, about the important part – from what has been revealed, the Sony Xperia Miro comes with a 3.5-inch screen, a 5 megapixel camera with 30 fps video recording and LED flash, a front camera for video calling, DLNA and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onboard. Along with this, you’ll get a bunch of Sony’s exclusive apps and software. With the announcement of the Xperia Miro, Sony now has the Xperia S, P, U, Sola, Go, Acro S and Miro in the market, which is quite a number of handsets launched under the new line-up. From what has been revealed, we’re hoping that the Xperia Miro is a mid range Android close to the price range of the Xperia U, along with a microSD card slot! Specific pricing and availability for India hasn’t been announced yet, so stay tuned to this space for more details.
