Micromax may launch dual core smartphones for less than Rs 10,000


A new smartphone platform from MediaTek will offer a 1 GHz dual core processor and Android
4.0 at below Rs 10k.

Micromax may try , a dual core platform called MT6577 in future smartphones which can be priced less than Rs 10,000. The MT6577 chipset is made by MediaTek, a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions,

A Micromax spokesperson said to The Mobile Indian, "MediaTek has just launched MT6577, a dual core platform, and we will be evaluating it in the coming months so that we can use them in our future smartphones."

MediaTek MT6577 features a dual 1 GHz Cortex A9 processor, a PowerVR Series5 SGX GPU (graphics processing unit), 3G/HSPA+">HSPA modem, and it runs the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

"MT6577 adds the next level of performance and enhanced user experience to the MediaTek smartphone family, delivering enhanced user interactivity, mobile connectivity and a rich multimedia experience previously only available on high-end devices. Consumers everywhere will now benefit from the affordable, high-performance devices enabled by the MT6577," said Ching-Jiang Hsieh, president of MediaTek.

The platform will also offer an 8 megapixel camera, support for up-to high definition 1080p video playback and the ability to support high resolution displays up to HD 720 (1280 x 720 pixel) resolution. The platform also offers dual band 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and FM.

The first smartphone models based on this new chipset are expected to ship commercially in the next three months.

In India, MediaTek is one of the major suppliers of mobile platforms to players like Spice Mobile, Micromax, Lava etc.
