Flipboard for Android has been an anticipated event. If you're an Android user, you can have Flipboard now, albeit, in beta. Flipboard let out a private beta version of the app for Android users yesterday and to get the app (if you haven't already gotten the leaked version), head over to flipboard.com/android. Once you're there, enter your email address you will receive instructions on how to add the beta version of the app to your Android device via email. Flipboard for Android was first hinted with the demo of the Samsung Galaxy S III where the demo video of the phone showed a Flipboard app hanging out on the homescreen. Flipboard for Android had been rumoured to make its debut on the Samsung Galaxy S III and various other Android devices will come with the app preloaded, depending on make and carrier.
Earlier this month, Flipboard came to Android in the form of a leaked APK file. The 2.32 MB APK was made available on XDA-Dev and seemed to work on all Android devices. If you're not familiar with what Flipboard is, the app essentially acts as an aggregator of your social media feeds and news and articles based on your feeds and preferences. The app originally launched for the iPad in 2010 and came to the iPhone in December of 2011. Originally, Flipboard allowed you to save 9 publications to the app's homescreen and you were presented with articles from those nine apps. Then Flipboard updated to provide you with stories based on your preferences of subjects and also by scanning through your tweets and Facebook posts, if you let it.
Android handset users can expect the Flipboard app to be similar to the experience as that on the iPhone, complete with cover stories. There is no word yet if there will be a seperate Flipboard app for Android tablets, to provide an iPad like experience on the Android platform.
