Use an HTTPS-Encrypted Connection When Browsing all time.

When you're browsing the Web,
protect yourself by using HTTPS
(Hypertext Transfer Protocol
Secure) whenever possible. HTTPS
encrypts the connection between
your PC and the Website you're visiting. Though HTTPS doesn't
guarantee that a site is secure, it
can help prevent other parties
from hacking into the network
and gaining access to your
account. Many sites use HTTPS by default: When you purchase an item online or log in to
online banking, for instance, your browser will
probably connect to the site via HTTPS
automatically. But you can go one step further by
enabling HTTPS on Facebook, Twitter, and Gmail. To use Facebook's HTTPS feature, log in to
Facebook and click Account in the upper-right
corner. Select Account Settings from the drop-
down menu, and look for ‘Account Security' on
the resulting page. Under the Account Security
heading, click Change, check the box next to Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https)
whenever possible, and click Save.

For Twitter, first log in to your account. If you're
using the new Twitter interface, click your account name in the upper-right part of the
screen, and select settings. (If you're still using
the old Twitter interface, click the Settings link in
the upper right of the window.) From there, scroll down to the bottom of the resulting page,
check the box next to Always use HTTPS, and
click Save. To enable HTTPS on Gmail, log in to your account,
click the gear icon in the upper-right corner, and
select Mail Settings from the drop-down menu.
Next, under the Browser Connection heading,
select the button labeled Always use https. When
you're all set, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.

Google's new weapon for social networking. :-( Google+)

To win from the supremacy of social networking giant Facebook, Google has recently introduced a service called Google plus (Google+). According to the homepage of Google+, the
project is currently available only to a small group of people (probably testers) but you can register for an invite and update on the service. Google+ is made of three basic concepts (which
have intuitive names): 'Circles,' 'Hangouts,' and
‘Sparks.'

Circles: This feature lets you handle your friends circle. You can drag and drop new friends to
your preset circle as you see fit. You can also
choose the type of content that will be shared
with a particular circle.

Hangouts: It is nothing but a glorified term for video chatting. "With Hangouts, the unplanned
meet-up comes to the web for the first time," what Google says.

Sparks: If you find an interesting article on the web and want to share it in your circle, then you
can use ‘Sparks’ for social sharing. Also you can
key in any topic that interests and choose from a
wide variety of links to share it on 'Circles.'

It is yet to be seen whether Google+ will receive
a good response because Google's earlier attempt
at social networking was a failure.

Apple IPhone 3GS now in store. (Unlocked)

Your dream is the iPhone? Your dream
might just come true. Apple has launched the two-year-old iPhone 3GS for a much lower Rs.19,990. This means that competition in the mid-range
smartphones segment just gets hotter. Samsung's
Android-based smartphones Nexus S and Galaxy i9003 SLCD which were sitting pretty on top of
the pile now have a new competitor in the
iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 3GS is still a good phone
and the plus point is that it is upgradable to iOS 5
when it is launched in the future.

The 3.5 inch screen of the iPhone 3GS has solution of 320x480. It has a 600 MHz
processor, and 8 GB memory. It runs iOS 4.3
(upgradable to iOS 5) and in terms of
connectivity, the handset is capable of reaching
speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps on 3G HSDPA.

Finally much awaited - Do-Not-Call Registry in August

Last year, TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) had introduced a new set of rules, according to which, the unending spate of telemarketing calls and SMSs would come to an end. In the wake of several complaints, owing to the pesky nature of the calls, and messages, the regulatory body took the decision. However, despite a decision a place, the implementation of the same didn’t happen.

This time, TRAI has brought forth yet another set of rules, about whose implementation it seems very serious. Beginning from August, this year, tentatively 15th August, 2011, TRAI will follow its revised Do-Not-Call (DNC) registry. According the new DNC registry rules, users can choose to block telemarketing voice calls, but, no similar block is being made available for telemarketing messages, at least for now. However, for the telemarketing SMSs, users have a choice to pick an area of interest, or concern, like – banking, financial products, real estate, education, health, consumer goods, automobiles, communication, entertainment, among others. The TRAI believes picking an area of interest would lend some authority in the hands of the users, too.

Among TRAI’s other directives, is the rule that unregistered users would not be disturbed by regulated telemarketers between 9am – 9pm. The TRAI has now sent fresh notices to DoT asking them to begin the allocation of the number series to all telemarketers, using which consumers will be able to sift through unwanted telemarketing calls and messages.

Apple iPhone 5 To be launched in this September 2011

Last year, apple's event in September saw a new line of iPods, a  Apple TV, and iTunes 10. The event was pretty much dominated by the iPods. However, this year the story could be a little different if the news from Bloomberg is to be believed.

Bloomberg has boldly claimed that the "iPhone 5 is scheduled hit the market in September". It also suggests that the device will run on a new A5 SoC (System on Chip) consisting of a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor and a PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU. The camera module on the phone is also expected to get a much-needed upgrade. However, the report only says that the new version will have a more advanced camera. I think this could mean an improved sensor, or maybe an 8 megapixel camera.

The report also reveals that the iPhone has accounted for half the company's revenues in the last year. This is reason enough for any manufacturer to launch a newer version.

Mobile Phones May Cause Cancer :- WHO

WHO says mobile phones may cause cancer. No, this isn't a rhetorical question, but a WHO report suggests that prolonged cell phone usage may be bad for your health. This isn't restricted to mobiles alone, but any wireless communication devices that use microwaves to transmit information. While, researchers had a fair idea on the harmful effects of microwaves, this is the first time WHO has acknowledged the possibility through a report. TheInternational Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reached a conclusion through a meeting in Lyon, France, where the body deemed that the electromagnetic fields generated by these wireless devices are "possibly carcinogenic to humans".

The decision was reached by a team of 31 experts from 14 countries, which based its findings on empirical evidence from epidemiological studies. In layman's terms, the report draws from statistical analysis of cases involving the co-existence of heavy mobile usage with symptoms of cancer. To give you an idea, some individuals tracked in the studies had used their phones for an average of 30 minutes per day over a period of 10 years according to the report.

On the other hand, University of Sydney's Bruce Armstrong, an Australian researcher who was a part of the expert team, believes more research is needed before a concrete link can be established between cancer and mobile phones. Armstrong puts forth an interesting finding suggesting that the 3G technology used by iPhones, Blackberry, and other smartphones appeared to emit less harmful radiowaves than traditional cell phones. "A very important observation, really, just based on the technology, is that the 3G phones in fact give a much lower dose to the brain than the previous generations", says Armstrong.

However, don't be too happy about your 3G capable pride and joy, because these statistics may be a result of the relatively lower penetration of 3G handsets. Let's not forget the fact that this technology has been in the market for a significantly lower time than regular ones. "Whether, for example, the 3G levels are sufficient to cause brain tumours, we don t know at this stage, because most of the research at this stage was done on the generation before , concludes Armstrong, underscoring the need for further study.

At any rate, with 5 billion estimated mobile phone subscriptions globally, the proliferation of mobiles into our lives is irreversible. However, the govts across the world should ideally enforce handset manufacturers to adhere to safer levels of Specific Absorption Rates (SAR) in their products. In the interim, WHO advises cell phone users to use hands-free devices to minimise exposure to the electromagnetic waves. In short, if you care for someone, don't call them. At least that's what we're lead to believe with such reports.

Google Chrome OS for Your PC

Google has developed chrome os. You can run this os as VMWare and VirtualBox. I have managed to put my Goolge Chrome OS download in the form of VirtualBox. I am pleased to announce that now you can easily try it on your own computer from a USB thumb drive.

Before You Get Started Please Read following information

Before you decide to download Chrome OS, there are probably a few things I should tell you about it. It is in the very early stages of development, so there is still a lot of stuff that doesn’t work. In fact, it may not work for you at all.
You should also be made aware that this operating system is very simplistic by design, as it is intended for use on netbook computers . By definition, a netbook is a small and inexpensive laptop intended for very casual use such as web browsing and/or office tasks. When you launch Chrome OS, pretty much all you get is a web browser. Don’t be surprised if you go through all this.
Requirements
First of all, you will of course need a USB drive you can use to try it out. The disk image is 2,988,442,112 bytes, so you’ll probably need a 4GB thumb drive to be able to use it. If you have any files on your USB drive that you need, be sure to back them up to a safe place because this will wipe all the data from your USB drive.
You will also need a computer that allows booting from a USB drive. You’ll need to instruct your computer’s BIOS to boot from the USB drive instead of the hard drive like it normally does. When you boot up your computer, it should provide you with information as to how to bring up a boot menu. On some machines it is the F8 key and others the F12 key or some other key.
If it all scrolls by too fast, some computers will allow you to pause the boot sequence by pressing the Pause key. That should give you all the time you need to read all that stuff on the screen to see if you can find out what the boot menu key is (if there is one). If you don’t see anything about a boot menu, you could also try editing your BIOS settings to boot from the USB drive. You may wish to consult your computer (or motherboard) manual on how to do this.
You will also need a little bit of luck. Chromium OS may or may not work on your computer hardware. I did successfully run it on computers with Intel and ASUS motherboards.
Finally, you will need to download the necessary files to put Chromium OS onto your USB drive. I have packaged it all together in a torrent for you: Click here to get file. if link doesn't work copy this link.
You’ll need a good BitTorrent client like utorrent or BitTorrent to download it. The torrent has a zip file that includes the disk image, as well as a Windows tool for putting the image onto a USB drive. The program you’ll use to create the Chrome OS USB boot disk. It’s a good tool for writing disk images, and no cost. you don't need to download it separately because I’ve already included it in the torrent.

Once you’ve got Image Writer running, click the folder icon and select the chrome_os.img file it should be located in the same place where you extracted the zip file and launched Win32DiskImager.exe.

Connect your USB drive to your PC. If you have autorun enabled, you may want to wait a few seconds for your computer to do its thing. Just close whatever window may pop up. Next, click on the device dropdown and select the drive letter that corresponds to your USB drive. Then, click write and the program will commence writing the disk image to your USB drive.

Boot Up Chromium OS

You’re now ready to boot up Chromium OS! You can just leave the USB drive in your machine and reboot it. When the machine boots, press the boot menu key on your keyboard. Select your USB drive from the menu. In about 10 seconds or so, you should see the Chromium OS login screen.

Login with chronos and password. This will log you in as a local user. Once you log in, you should see what looks almost just like the Google Chrome browser. If you click on the Chrome sphere in the upper left corner, you should see a Google Accounts login page telling you to log into Welcome. Log in with your Google Account.

If you do not see this page and you get a browser page that says it could not find the page requested, then unfortunately luck is not on your side. It means that Chromium OS doesn’t like your network adapter. You could still however try it out in a virtual machine if you so desire. If you were able to succesfully log in, you should then see the application page.

All the other applications are simply links to web pages.
As you can see, it is all in the cloud. All the applications you see on the app page bring up different web pages, and everything you do takes place within the browser. In my experience, it did boot up relatively fast, the browser tends to run a bit slow . Although the calculator and notepad launch properly, the apps don’t work and nothing loads into the windows at all.

The British Library & Google To Make 250,000 Books Free Online.

Google announced on Monday that it is soon to
begin digitizing 250,000 books from The British Library, making them free to view online. The works, which span 170 years of history, will be
carefully selected historical out-of-copyright
publications, with Google responsible for
handling and scanning costs. Once complete, users will be able to per use the
collection on Google Books and The British Library’s website, with Google providing
downloadable versions and the ability to conduct
full text searches. The materials include
pamphlets, books and periodicals from
1700-1870 in a variety of European languages.

Chief Executive of The British Library, Dame Lynne
Brindley said in a press release: In the nineteenth century it was an ambition of
our predecessors to give everybody access to as
much of the world’s information as possible, to
ensure that knowledge was not restricted to
those who could afford private libraries. We are
delighted to be partnering with Google on this project and through this partnership believe that
we are building on this proud tradition of giving
access to anyone, any where and at any time. Over the process of the digitization, around 40
million pages will have to be scanned.
Unsurprisingly, we’ve had no sniff of an
estimated completion date.

Dropbox Drops Passwords For Four Hours.

Online storage service Dropbox recently confirmed that an error made it possible for users
to access accounts without the correct password.
All a user needed to know was the email address
tied to the account he or she wanted to access, as
any password – including a blank one – would
allow access. The security flaw was introduced at 1:54 PM pacific daylight time and was live for
nearly four hours before being patched at 5:46
PM. According to Dropbox, the problem was
introduced into the authentication system during
a code update. The company stated that only 1% of its accounts
were accessed during the security vulnerability’s
window and that an investigation into the
circumstances surrounding the error is now
underway. Although the 1% figure doesn’t
sound serious, Dropbox has about 25 million users, so this means that about 250,000 accounts
were accessed while the issue was live.

Flaws of this nature are a serious problem for
Dropbox, as the service is used by many
organizations to share
information related to on going projects. The
service has come under fire in recent months for
a number of security related issues, including misleading statements about file encryption that eventually resulted in a formal complaint by the FTC. There are a couple of things you can check to
make sure that your Dropbox account was not
compromised during those critical 4 hours. First of all, check dropbox log page which goes into detail about all the recent activity in your
Dropbox account. It will show you if someone
has removed or added any files to your account
without your knowledge and permission, as well
as if any of your files were shared with anyone. This page shows all the computers and mobile devices which are currently linked to your
account. See a computer or device you don’t
recognize? Or has one of your computers or
mobile devices been removed? Then someone
has probably accessed your account. Boot them
off and change your password immediately.

Nokia N9 :- Why You Shouldn't Buy this Device.

Nokia has unveiled the N9, its latest flagship smartphone, the first device to run the MeeGo
operating system. Meego has been heralded as
Nokia's strategic move against increased
competition from rivals Apple and Google. The N9 looks like one of Nokia's
finest works to date: it has a 3.9-
inch AMOLED display (854 by 480
pixels resolution), which is made
from scratch-resistant curved
glass, with no buttons on the face of the phone; the body is made
out of polycarbonate, which Nokia
claims will help with reception
issues. There's also an 8-megapixel
camera on board and NFC
capabilities. But hardware is not the N9's
problem - it's the software. The phone runs on
the latest iteration of MeeGo, which Nokia developed as a response to Apple's
iPhone and the Android army. But the problem is
MeeGo is obsolete, even before the N9 goes on
sale. Earlier this year Nokia, under new management,
realized it was standing on a "burning platform." Symbian and MeeGo, Nokia's smartphone operating systems, were too expensive to
maintain and they were years behind
competitors' sleekness and usability. Nokia's new CEO realized this and decided to strike a deal with Microsoft and put Windows Phone 7 on its top smartphones. The first Nokia Windows Phone 7 devices are set
to arrive later of 2011, while Symbian and
Meego phones will be slowly abandoned over
the coming months or relegated to cheaper feature phones. It makes little sense to buy the
N9, with an OS soon to be put to pastures, regardless of Nokia's excellent craftsmanship
when it comes to hardware. If you really want a
Nokia phone, you are better off waiting until later this year for one of the Windows Phone 7 models.

Nokia N9 Officially Announced at singapore.

As expected, the Nokia N9 was officially
announced today at Nokia Connection in
Singapore. The MeeGo device features a 3.9-inch
AMOLED Gorilla Glass screen, 8MP Carl Zeiss wide-
angle camera with dual LED flash, 16GB or 64GB
storage, and more.

The body of the Nokia N9 is made from unibody polycarbonate material. There are no front-facing
buttons at all. You unlock the phone by just
double-tapping the screen. The Nokia N9 has the
latest Nokia Maps with free, voice-guided turn-
by-turn navigation for walking and driving. It
will also be NFC-enabled. You can go and experience the Nokia N9 for yourself at swipe.nokia.com.

“With the Nokia N9, we wanted to design a better way to use a phone. To do this we
innovated in the design of the hardware and
software together. We reinvented the home key
with a simple gesture: a swipe from the edge of
the screen. The experience sets a new bar for
how natural technology can feel, ” said Marko Ahtisaari, Nokia’s head of Design in the press release. “And this is just the beginning. The details that make the Nokia N9 unique – the industrial design, the all-screen user experience,
and the expressive Qt framework for developers
– will evolve in future Nokia products. ” No specifics yet on pricing and availability, but
Stephen Elop says it will come out later this year.
It will come in three colors – black, cyan, and magenta.

Import facebook contacts to gmail

Gmail is where I spend a lot of time during a given day.
Whether I’m answering a fresh round of emails or searching through a pile of old ones to find
important information I had either forgotten or
misplaced, Gmail usually helps me get the job
done in a short amount of time. One thing I never
find myself doing however, is adding contacts to
my address book, because well, that just takes too much time. Besides, I would have to enter all
of that information manually. Where would I
even find the kind of information that goes along
with my contacts ’ names and email addresses? Facebook. Most of the people I know who I
would like to include in my Gmail contacts are
already friends with me on Facebook. So if I ever need to know where they currently live or work
the chances are good I can just search for it there.
But wouldn’t it be great if Facebook and Gmail played nicely together so I could have all of that
information in one place? Well, now they do,
with a simple little web application called Friends
to Gmail. What Is Friends To Gmail? Friends to Gmail app is a web application that you can use to convert your
Facebook friends list into a nice, Gmail-compatible
CSV file. once created, you can import this file
right into Gmail and all of your friends’ information, like names, locations, birthdays, bios,
work history, and hometowns, will be added to
your contacts for you. The app ask for
permissions to retrieve this type of information
from your Facebook account, but since all of the
work is done within the browser, Friends to Gmail’s servers never actually “download” anything, which should all eviate any privacy
concerns you may have about the app. one thing to note is that Friends to Gmail does not download email addresses and phone numbers for your friends. This is because
Facebook does not currently provide developers
with a way to retrieve this type of data, and for
good reason. After all, we already have enough privacy concerns with Facebook. Friends to Gmail’s developer does claim to be working on a way around this for those of us that would
welcome such an option. As an added benefit, you will be able to add all of
your friends’ birthdays to your Google Calendar! How Do I Use Friends To Gmail? To get started importing your friends, just head
over to Friends to Gmail’s homepage and click the giant Connect with Facebook button. It will ask
for your permission and you
will be able to download your CSV file.
then head over to your Gmail account and click
contacts. on the Contacts page, click on the More actions
drop-down menu and select Import from there, a box will pop up that allows your to
select a CSV file to upload. Choose the file that
Friends to Gmail generated and you’re all set!

conclusion Personally, I think this app is a life saver. It finally
gave me a good reason to want to keep my
Gmail contact list up to date, which enables me to
add friends that I hadn’t previously emailed to my outgoing emails, making Facebook’s information even more useful.

LogmeIn

If you use a main desktop PC at work or at home,
and also use a laptop, you've likely got problems.
Let's say, for example, that you use an e-mail
client such as Outlook or Thunderbird on your desktop PC, but
when you are away from it, you want to check
your email. There's nothing you can do; you are out of luck. LogMeIn Free solves the problem. You can
take control any of your computers from any PC
or Mac over the Internet, using one of the popular
browsers on LogMeIn's supported list. So that
means you'll be able to sit at a different computer,
controlling your main computer almost as if you were sitting there. Setup is surprisingly easy. Create an account on
the LogMeIn.com Web site, then install the
LogMeIn software on the computer you wish to
control. Tell the software you want that PC to be
able to be controlled over the Internet. Then
when you want to take control of it, log into your LogMeIn.com account, and you'll be able to
take control of the computer, using either a PC or
a Mac. The computer you want to control will
have to left on and running LogMeIn Free. For the
best performance, install any software that it
recommends on the machine on which you're using a browser, such as a Firefox plug-in or a
special piece of Mac software. But you don't have
to do that--it still works, even with out the special
software. You'll now be able to run the remote computer in
its own browser window. You may have to
fiddle with resolution settings on the machine
from which you are connecting when you re
connected if the resolution on the machine you re
controlling and the one doing the controlling don't match. There's also a $70 (~ Rs. 3130) per year version
of LogMeIn, LogMeIn Pro2, which has extra
features such as remote printing, file-sharing and
more. But if you don't need those features, the
free version will do the trick. Note that when you install LogMeIn, it installs as a
trial of the Pro version. However, you can easily
turn that trial software into the free version. To
do so, select Options --> About, click the "Switch
Account or Subscriptions" button, and in the
Available Subscriptions drop-down menu, select LogMeIn Free. You can also do nothing, because at the end of
the Pro trial period, you will be asked if you want
to subscribe to the Pro version. If you don't
subscribe, the software will automatically revert
to the free version, removing the Pro features but
remaining functional.

Motorola xoom tablet available in india soon.

The world's very first android tablet with os optimized for tablet, Motorola XOOM is now on the way of India. Reports suggest that the Motorola
XOOM will make its way towards the country by
the end of this month. The Motorola XOOM tablet
was originally launched this past February in the
United States as the first ever Honeycomb device. Honeycomb is a version of the Android operating
system by Google, specially optimized for tablets.
While some may feel that the XOOM is a bit late to
enter the Indian Honeycomb tablet scene, with
tablets like the Acer Iconia Tab already available
in the market, the XOOM will still have the privilege of being the first ever Honeycomb
tablet.

The Motorola XOOM features a 10.1" display with dimensions of 800x1280 pixels, and
comes along with a 5 MP rear camera capable of
recording 720p and a 2 MP front facing camera
for video calling. It is powered by a 1 GHz dual
core NVIDIA Tegra 2 and there's 1 GB of RAM on board to take care of the tablet's performance aspect. There are few connection options too with an HDMI port
and a microSD card slot. The tablet will be
available in 16 GB and 32 GB variants, though
details about the prices are very scarce at the moment. The Acer Iconia Tab A500 already available in the
market offers similar functionality with very few
differences, but it has been criticized for having a
poor build quality. Still, there's very little to
differentiate between the Acer Iconia and the
Motorola XOOM. Also, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will soon be launched, making it even
harder for you to choose. The Galaxy Tab 10.1
will come packed with Android 3.1, whereas
XOOM comes with Android 3.0 though an update
is promised by Motorola. The XOOM has a
superior 5 MP camera, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 3.15 MP.

Access multiple cloud in single login

Future of technology is in the cloud, and the great wars to conquer that new territory have begun.
Amazon and Google started the war on online music services and Apple joined the
war by announcing iCloud. But music is not the only thing that people put on the cloud. There are documents, photos, and
movies, with lots of cloud locations to
put those files, including Dropbox, Amazon , Google Docs, Apple iCloud, and personal FTP accounts. But one of the biggest problems of
using cloud servers to save your files is that you
have to manage them one by one. If you have
ten different cloud accounts, you have to login to
ten different servers to manage your files.
Wait, luckily, there’s Otixo. This service will help you manage your cloud accounts from one place. Collecting The Clouds Start by signing up for the service. Don ’t use a fake email address because Otixo will send the
activation link to that address, and you can ’t start before activating your account.

Start by signing up for the service. Don ’t use a fake email address because Otixo will send the
activation link to that address, and you can ’t start before activating your account. after logging in, you can start managing your
cloud accounts by adding them one by one to
Otixo. Currently the supported cloud services are: Dropbox, Box.net, MobileMe (apple's), Google Docs, and other online storage services which use the WebDav protocol
or FTP. Hopefully there will be more services added to the list in the future. to add a cloud service, click on one of the icons
on the list. Otixo will ask you to give a name for
that account. You can give any name you want,
but it’s advisable to use a name related to the service, so that later on, you will have no trouble
telling which account is which.

Adding WebDav and FTP accounts requires you
to fill in more than just a “Display Name” field. The next step is authorizing Otixo to access the
account. Click the “Authorize” button and log into the account, then give Otixo permission to connect with the
account. You will see your cloud service appear on Otixo ’s web-based file explorer. To add another cloud
service, click the “New Service ” icon above the file explorer and repeat the process. all the added cloud services are listed on the left
pane of the explorer. I discovered that you can
only add one Dropbox account to the list.

otixo’s file explorer acts similarly to a normal desktop file explorer. You can go inside a folder,
open a file, copy and paste, and do other basic
file/folder actions.

Another great feature of Otixo is the ability to
access the account from your computer desktop.
It means that you can add your cloud services to
